2015 AFAC cereal drive

Our AFAC cereal drive is within sight of our 2015 goal of donating 600 boxes. As of the end of September we have collected a total of 437 boxes. With just slightly more than 50 boxes donated in each of the remaining three months of this year, we can easily meet our goal! Thanks to everyone for your strong, continued support of this community ministry!

Strawberry Festival – this Saturday!

Bethel’s annual Strawberry Festival will be this Saturday, June 6 from 11 am to 3 pm. Strawberry shortcake, hot dogs, hamburgers, a bake sale, children’s activities, and more! An attic sale begins at 10 am in front of the church–come early for best bargains!

Weather permitting, this fun event will be held outdoors in the shady area next to the church building. If rain occurs, we will move inside to our Social Hall.

The money raised from this 50+ year annual event  supports the Red Cross and Bethel’s ongoing ministry.

Parking is available in the lot at the adjacent Red Cross building.

Snowy Sunday

With the current weather predictions we plan that there WILL BE worship tomorrow Sunday, February 22nd at 10 am at Bethel.  Please use utmost caution if you are able to join us.  We expect it will be rather slippery.  Our first priority is to safety.

Valentine’s Game Night Feb. 14

Join us Saturday, February 14, from 5 to 7:30 pm for Valentine’s Day themed fun and fellowship. Arts and crafts–including making Valentine’s Day cards–as well as games, puzzles and other activities for all ages. Plus mac’n’cheese, mini hot dogs and other munchies! All are cordially invited.

Give Thanks

Join us on Wednesday, November 26th at 7:00 pm to give God thanks for all the blessings in our lives.  We will gather in ecumenical community at Bethel with Arlington Church of the Brethren and Arlington Forest United Methodist Church for music, prayer, and scripture.  All are welcome and invited to join us.

It’s a Party

Community Ministry 2.0

Thank you to everyone who took time to fill out Survey Monkey about our August Community Worship Series. We received feedback from more than 45 people! The theme was overwhelmingly positive. You loved worshiping in a space filled with voices, you liked meeting new people and learning about other traditions. You thought the series created positive energy for all our churches. cw1Though you are excited about the way the Spirit is at work in our midst, you worry about losing our own identity, about over extending ourselves with too many new programs, about visitors or members who missed worship this summer because they didn’t know what was happening or that the logistics were overwhelming. We hear your concerns and seek to move forward, carrying the energy of the Spirit, in a positive, intentional way. Your feedback, support and prayers are welcome!

cw2World Wide Communion Sunday is October 5th and we will celebrate the multi-cultural, ecumenical service by welcoming the Rev. Nancy Fitzgerald for a pulpit exchange. In order to continue to learn about one another, but to minimize the logistical challenges of moving congregants, the clergy of our three churches are exchanging pulpits. I will be worshiping and preaching at Arlington Forest United Methodist Church while the Rev. Mike Vess will be at Arlington Church of the Brethren. If you are interested in helping with worship that day, we are looking for extra support including scripture readers, liturgists, and a children’s message. Please let me know if you willing to participate.

Looking ahead, in November we will welcome all three churches into our sanctuary for the Thanksgiving service on Wednesday, November 26th at 7 pm. We hope you will join us.

Hymn sing at Mary Marshall House

Please join Bethel on Saturday, May 17th at 4:00 p.m. at Mary Marshall House in Arlington for a hymn sing in honor of the late Robert Woosley, a long-time Bethel member and Mary Marshall resident.

Children of all ages are welcome. Please bring some cookies, brownies or other easy finger desserts for the residents.  Afterwards, we will gather at Bethel for pizza and a little fellowship time.

Current Bible study series

Our Wednesday evening study group on theology world views continues until Lent. We all view the world through our own understanding of God, Christ, the Spirit, humanity and end times. There are five basic understandings of theology through which we see the world. Join us Wednesdays 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the library February 26 for this series.
